In May 2015, Shannon Ball wed Don Perez in Stuart, Florida, surrounded by loved ones. But one very significant person was missing—Ball’s beloved father, who passed away in 2006 after battling colon cancer. Perez, understanding how important it was to honor her father on their special day, decided to include him in the absolute sweetest way, giving Ball the next best thing to dancing with her dad at their wedding.

After performing two songs for Ball at their reception (a dance to Bruno Mars’s “Just the Way You Are,” and a solo of Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud”), Perez changed into a custom T-shirt he designed with Ball’s favorite picture of her father on the front and “May I have this dance?” written across the back.

Overcome with emotion and gratitude, Ball practically melts at the thoughtful gesture before joining Perez (and her father, in spirit) on the dance floor. Such a creative and heartfelt way to pay tribute Ball’s father.

Watch Ball’s emotional reaction above and prepare to lose it (especially at 3:55, when Perez changes into his homemade T-shirt).
