Let’s go back… back to the proposal. Actress Hilary Duff is sharing new details about her engagement to Matthew Koma, and it took place on what seemingly appeared to be another average day for the future bride.
“I came home from work on a random Tuesday, and he was like ‘Let’s go for a walk. Let’s go check out this park,’” the Younger actress noted this week on The Talk. “We were living in Williamsburg and I was like ‘I’m so tired.’ … I just wanted to eat dinner in bed and watch Game of Thrones.”
Koma, however, was insistent about venturing out and enjoying their Brooklyn neighborhood. “He was like ‘No, no. Let’s go on a walk,’” she continued, which prompted Duff to pull on a pair of sweatpants and walk with her beau to a local park. There, Koma came prepared with gifts.
“He presents me with this book that he said he’s been working on for a while,” the former Disney Channel star recalled. “He’s like, ‘It’s our story.’”
The book itself featured a series of illustrations commissioned for the custom tale. Koma’s intent was that he and Duff would be able to share their love story with their loved ones in the future. “He was like, ‘We are going to forget things along the way, so we need to constantly fill this out,'” she adorably added.
The point, from Koma’s perspective was rather thoughtful: He noted, “‘…So our kids can know our story.’” At the way end of the book, Duff found a compartment on a page that she was able to open. Inside, was her ring.
“It was so sweet. It was so sweet,” she recalled. “And he got down on one knee and he’s like, ‘I forgot everything I’m supposed to say, but you’re my best friend.’ It was so sweet.”
Duff shared a photo from presumably the park where Koma proposed in her engagement announcement on May 9. “He asked me to be his wife,” she wrote.
