Now we know: Chris Pratt’s proposal was planned in advance. For those who speculated the surprise proposal was an impromptu decision, numerous sources have told a variety of outlets that Pratt had actually meticulously awaited the exact moment to pop the question.
“Chris asked for Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s permission around Christmas,” an insider told Us Weekly. “Maria helped him with the proposal.”
Pratt popped the question Sunday evening after helping Schwarzenegger move into her home over the weekend. “Chris was very sweet when he proposed to Katherine,” another source told Entertainment Tonight. “As he had a romantic speech prepared explaining how important she was to him.”
The same insider added, “Katherine complements Chris and is very good for him.”
That night, Pratt—still giddy from his newfound engagement—took to Instagram to share the news with his followers. “Sweet Katherine, so happy you said yes!” Pratt wrote alongside a loved-up snapshot with his new fiancée. “I’m thrilled to be marrying you. Proud to live boldly in faith with you. Here we go!”
Hours later, Schwarzenegger echoed his sentiments on social media. “My sweet love. Wouldn’t want to live this life with anyone but you,” she wrote.
Pratt proposed with a massive, at least six-to-seven-carat, oval-shape diamond that numerous experts tell The Knot set the Guardians of the Galaxy actor back six figures.
The couple reportedly first met through Shriver and have been together since at least June 2018. “Congratulations to two loving, kind, caring, thoughtful, spiritual people,” Pratt’s future mother-in-law expressed Monday. “We are so happy for you. You are blessed, as is everyone who knows you. Yes, let’s go.”
