For the first time in forever since her September wedding, Frozen actress Idina Menzel finally opened up this week about newlywed life with Aaron Lohr.

“He’s my guy,” the beloved Broadway star told People on Wednesday, November 8. Menzel went on to share that she adores referring to Lohr—her co-star in 2005’s Rent—as her “husband.” But day-to-day, the term that’s evolved most for the pair in marriage is “family.”

“Family, to me, means being able to be yourself,” she told People. “Sit back on the couch and relax, and watch a movie with the people that know you better than anyone else in the world.”

The new wife shares an 8-year-old son named Walker with ex-husband Taye Diggs, who also starred in the blockbuster musical with Lohr and Menzel. “They’re very close,” she added of her son and new husband.

Menzel and Lohr quietly married in the backyard of their Encino, California, home in late September. The bride was the one to share the first photos from the intimate, family-centric nuptials. “Wanted to let you know… married the love of my life Aaron Lohr this weekend at our home,” Menzel expressed on September 25. “Dad & son walked me down the aisle. It was magical. Thank you to everyone who helped make my wedding day so special.”

Event planner Jo Gartin helped build out a breathtaking space in the couple’s backyard, while photography dynamic duo Amy & Stuart documented everything from the vows to the first kiss. Only a few photos from the wedding, though, have been revealed.

For the occasion, the singer wore a lace, off-the-shoulder gown by Carolina Herrera, which she accessorized with Jimmy Choo stilettos and a Jennifer Behr headpiece. Menzel kept her look simple and straightforward, opting for classic diamond studs by Ricardo Basta to round out her outfit.

Her hair and makeup team, stylist Brian Hennings and artist Genevieve Herr, helped craft an effortless and fresh bridal beauty look.
