Ever wonder what it’s like to be married to a mad scientist? Ilana Glazer has your back.
The Broad City creator quietly married scientist David Rooklin in a Brooklyn ceremony in February—news that was revealed by a close friend and wedding guest a month later. Even Kelly Ripa didn’t know of the nuptials, so the Live With Kelly and Ryan co-host naturally brought it up when the newlywed Rough Night actress stopped by on Tuesday, June 20.
“We’ve been together for five years this month. It came together kind of quickly,” Glazer said of her wedding. “Just because it was all there already… It was crazy. It was pretty casual and just chill.”
Rooklin is a computational biologist who knows very little about the world of comedy. Still, it was fate for the strangers who first encountered each other in 2012. “I met him after FX passed [on Broad City] and before Comedy Central picked up the show. I was very humbled,” said Glazer, who co-wrote the smash series with Abbi Jacobson. “He’s in science so he doesn’t know comedy. We met in Washington Square Park and we just made eyes and it was like, ‘Damn.’”
For their honeymoon, the pair decided to go the adventurous route with a trip to Iceland. “Dude, it’s five hours from here. It is five hours to get to the moon with oxygen,” the new wife explained. However, the couple was ill-prepared for the many activities offered by the country including the highly-recommended geothermal pools and spas.
“Dave and I are stupid about those things. We just like to walk and talk,” Glazer said. “Honestly driving is the most beautiful thing… We felt like we were on drugs or something driving. ‘Is some experience bleeding over that this is so insane?’”
