A-Rod certainly knocked this one out of the park. As Jennifer Lopez takes center stage during the Super Bowl Halftime Show on Sunday, February 2, the multi-hyphenate’s engagement ring from Alex Rodriguez may also make a surprise appearance on stage.
In March 2019, the former Yankees player proposed to the “On the Floor” singer during a romantic island vacation, where he dropped to one knee with an eye-catching, emerald-cut diamond engagement ring. The bauble, according to jewelers, is significant in size… and likely, correlated cost.
The stone alone on Jennifer Lopez’s engagement ring weighs in at 15 carats and is valued at well above the national average in cost. Blue Nile Chief Merchandising Officer Katie Zimmerman says the diamond is set on a very simple and sophisticated setting that’s flattering on Lopez’s petite finger. “It appears to be a four-prong solitaire with talon prongs,” Zimmerman notes, “and it’s likely platinum metal.”
The diamond is an emerald-cut stone that is identified by its facets. “It appears to be a minimum of 12 to 14 carats,” she explains. “We can estimate it’s a high color and clarity combination, which values the stone around $1 million-plus.”

The experts at James Allen tell us that the diamond is approximately 15 carats “set simply with a beautiful solitaire setting.” The Allen team says a stone that is this significant in size and quality typically should have a simple setting in order to allow the diamond to take center stage.
Shane Co.’s VP of Merchandising Alicia Davis says emerald-cut diamonds should be featured on a classic solitaire band to showcase the elongated shape of the stone. The jeweler also estimates the diamond on Jennifer Lopez’s engagement ring to be 15 carats, though the estimated value from Davis’s perspective is close to a whopping $5 million.
The resurgence of fancy-cut diamonds has been especially prolific amongst recently-engaged celebrities. “Emerald-cut diamonds became popular back in the 1920’s, a time when clean lines and art deco styles were in fashion,” the Allen team concludes. “However, we’ve recently seen a returned interest in this shape, with celebrities such as Amal Clooney and Beyoncé sporting the stone. We would value Jennifer Lopez’s ring at over $1 million.”
The couple, along with their adorable respective families, are planning an intimate ceremony comprised of close loved ones in an undisclosed destination. Lopez disclosed to Entertainment Tonight that her tween son Max, whom she shares with ex-husband Marc Anthony, will be walking her down the aisle.
