Jessica Biel says her five-year marriage to Justin Timberlake is a success largely due to the similar values they share at home.
“We believe in loyalty, honesty…” Biel, 35, told Marie Claire in a new cover story. “We like to have fun. We like a lot of the same things.”
Balancing their personal lives with their professional endeavors is nothing new for the Hollywood couple. They’ve both been in the limelight from an early age, which cements their bond even further. “Also, in the business, we’re all very career-oriented, and you have to be a little selfish,” she reflected. “I understand that about my peers—about being focused and driven—and if you can find that and someone who shares the same values as you, it’s like: Score!”
Welcoming their son Silas in April 2015, however, resulted in somewhat of a reality check. “You think you’re a selfless person, and then you realize you’re not,” the Sinner actress acknowledged. “These little people come around and they require so much, and your schedule is really not your own, nor is it important anymore, and it’s very clear that it’s your life now revolving around this dude. I’m not that person who feels like, ‘Oh, my whole life changes for my kid,’ but it does.”
In May, the “Can’t Fight the Feeling” singer, 36, expressed his adoration for Biel in a sweet Mother’s Day post. “I marvel at you,” he wrote on Instagram. “It’s so hard to put into words EVERYTHING a Mother does. And you do it with such grace. Thank you for giving me the greatest gift and continuing to show [Silas] what it means to be a good person in the world.”
The couple married in Italy in October 2012 after five years of dating. Biel—who stunned in a custom pink Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown—described the day as a “total fantasy experience.”
The following April, Timberlake gushed about his new wife to daytime host Ellen DeGeneres. “Every once in awhile, I catch a glimpse of her when she doesn’t see me looking, and I have this moment where I’m like, ‘If you only made bad decisions for the rest of your life, you made one really good decision,’” he said. “It’s nice to marry your best friend. It suits me.”
