It’s like Dwight Schrute lives on. While A-listers John Krasinski and Emily Blunt have solidified their status as one of Hollywood’s most adorable and approachable couples, there are still some people in the world who have yet to catch on to the fervor.
Krasinski stopped by the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, April 3, and gave updates about life with his two daughters, Violet and Hazel, and his lovely wife Blunt. Fallon asked how Blunt was doing, especially after the couple recently worked together on a film and had officially made the move to New York City.
The audience, upon hearing Fallon’s question about Blunt, cheered in response. “That reaction means I married up. And don’t I know it,” Krasinski remarked. “Please… they don’t have to tell me. The customs agent in London did.”
He then launched into the story about the unruly agent. The incident occurred while Blunt was filming Mary Poppins on site in London, and the couple had worked a schedule where Krasinski would fly into town on weekends. “I went to visit her all the time, almost every weekend,” he recalled. “It was going great, the customs, the whole experience. And then I hit this guy who was about my age. He looked like he was ready to get a little surly with me.”
That agent asked about Krasinski’s work history, which as the public knows, largely includes his role as Jim in the American version of The Office. “He said, ‘It says here that you’re an actor. Would I know you from anything?’” the customs agent inquired. “And I went, ‘You know, we redid the U.K. version of The Office.’ …Strike one! He was like, ‘Oh, you took what we did, perfect.’”
However, the true sore subject was apparently Krasinski’s marriage to Blunt. “Then he says, ‘Who are you visiting here?’ And I was like, ‘My wife,’” Krasinski, 38, recalled. “He says, ‘Oh, is she an actress? Would I know her?’ And I said, ‘I don’t know man, her name’s Emily Blunt.’”
That was enough for the already angry agent. “He goes like this, ‘You?!’ You married Emily Blunt?’” he recalled. “‘Just go. Go!'”
