Long before John Krasinski even met Emily Blunt in person, he was already a devoted fan of the Devil Wears Prada actress, admittedly even disclosing that he had memorized lines from the film. Years later, after a wedding and welcoming two little girls, the actor still appears to defend his status as Blunt’s biggest supporter.
The latest example was unveiled during Krasinski’s stop by the Ellen Show, where he confessed he had a rather dramatic reaction to Blunt’s performance in Mary Poppins Returns.
“We just screened it for my family over the holidays,” the Office actor said Wednesday, November 28. “I tried to prepare [our daughters] for how emotional it is.”
It was because Krasinski had already seen the Disney movie. “The first time I ever saw it, they gave you a tissue box in the screening room. I was like, ‘Oh that’s very nice. I don’t have a cold,’” he recalled. “They started screening the movie and 25 minutes into it, I stood up and went to the back of the room. And Emily said, ‘Do you not like it? I’ve never seen this happen.'”
In his state, Krasinski then went in search for those tissues. “I was like, ‘I need anything to stop this crying!’ I was crying so much,” he continued. “I blew through the tissue box in 20 minutes. I had to go to the napkins, and then when I ran out of the napkins, it was all sweater.”
Blunt naturally tackled a role immortalized by Julie Andrews in the original 1964 musical. “It’s honestly one of the most beautiful films,” he concluded. “I think it’s exactly what everybody needs for the holidays. It’s pure joy!”
Of course, Krasinski is accustomed to being emotionally invested in his wife’s movies. The actor revealed he bawled several years ago upon hearing Blunt sing for the first time ever during a recording session for her role in the film, Into the Woods.
“The orchestra started playing, and Emily started singing, and I just immediately wept,” he told Vanity Fair. “It was really wild. It was like finding out that your wife can levitate. It was just like, ‘”When were you going to tell me this?’”
The A-listers share two girls, Hazel and Violet.
