John Krasinski, star of the just-released 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, made an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show today, sharing one of his favorite dance moves from Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux’s wedding, along with a scary scuba diving experience from he and his wife Emily Blunt’s honeymoon.
As we all now know, Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux’s wedding was locked up tight, but that doesn’t mean that their wedding guests didn’t have fun! Not giving too much away, DeGeneres and Krasinski joke about their rendezvous on the dance floor at the super secret Aniston and Theroux wedding.
“We actually danced at Jen and Justin’s wedding,” DeGeneres says. “I asked uh, Samantha Ronson was the dj, and we asked her to play the song,” and as Krasinski put it, the two “hijacked the wedding.”
“And we basically cleared the dance floor,” DeGeneres jokes. “No people were dancing with us. But you take up so much space when you dance!”
“Thank you, yeah. You have to stretch it out.” Turns out, Krasinski has kind of a signature move he was freely showcasing while dancing with DeGeneres at the August 5 wedding in Bel Air, Califorinia: The Lunge.
“Because you do the lunges,” DeGeneres explains, “No one really thinks about lunging during dancing.”
“By the end of the song I’m ready to dance to anything,” the actor jokes, to which DeGeneres matter-of-factly responds, “Yeah, cause you’re stretched out. You’re limber.”
But their conversation takes a turn for the thrilling when Krasinski starts to discuss he and his wife Emily Blunt’s honeymoon scuba diving experience. The couple, who were married in Italy on July 10, 2010, had a close encounter with one particular shark while they were 100 feet deep into the ocean on their honeymoon.
Krasinki explains to DeGeneres that the couple went snorkeling with sharks the day before, and when they met their scuba diving instructor the next day, he got competitive, wanting to really “show them some stuff” by taking them to swim with Grey Reef Sharks.
As the actor put it, “I know every shark looks like Jaws, but these sharks really look like Jaws. And they’re huge.” The 13 Hours star continued, “Emily never wanted to learn scuba diving and I was like ‘We’ll never get into trouble with sharks!” Until one shark in particular decided that Blunt deserved more of a show!
“All of a sudden one broke off from the circle and started swimming behind us. I saw it and Emily didn’t. He started to charge Emily, so my decision was ‘If I spook her and she moves a lot, he might bite her.’”
So, not wanting to cause too much of a commotion the actor says he just “let it ride.” When Blunt realized that there was a shark speeding by, inches from her face, a little bit of panic set in and according to her husband, “she kind of passed out under water.”
“All of her air just went to the top,” Krasinski said. “It was pretty scary.”
But seconds later, a sea turtle swam up to comfort the scared honeymooner. “It was a sea turtle who came up, put his arm around her, and then started petting her head,” the actor mentions as footage of Blunt interacting with the sea turtle plays on the big screen behind him. “It was like he knew she had a bad day and he was like ‘Sorry about my buddy Terry, he gets real close on the fly-bys.”
DeGeneres and Krasinski go on to talk about the couple’s almost two-year-old daughter Hazel and how she uniquely calls for her father when she can’t find him, his experience going “stag” to the Golden Globes only to be comically seated at Leonardo DiCaprio’s table despite their lack of association, along with his handsome spread in Men’s Health Magazine promoting 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi which is now out in theaters.
