Jon Bon Jovi showcased his world-renowned talent at a wedding in Florida this past weekend when the couple’s jazz band beckoned him to the stage to sing one of his best-known singles.

The 54-year-old superstar was attending a South Florida wedding with his wife of 27 years, Dorthea Bongiovi, on Saturday, July 2, when he was summoned to perform his popular anthem “Livin’ on a Prayer.”

“I was told that Jon wanted to sing with my band so I went to work and arranged a few songs for my quintet, ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ and ‘Who Says You Can’t Go Home,’” the jazz band’s lead singer Lourdes Valentin wrote in her YouTube video description. “I said to myself it’s better to be prepared than sorry.”

As she cycled through the lyrics of Tommy and Gina’s troublesome love story she continuously invited Bon Jovi to the stage to sing, but it looked like he wasn’t having it. He grinned and waved and mouthed “you got it,” to Valentin as she crept closer to the legendary wedding guest until he gives in and reaches for her mic to “give it a shot.”

Picking up on the second verse of the song Bon Jovi took to the stage with Valentin and her quintet and rocked out to “Livin’ on a Prayer.” Though it hardly matched his sold-out arena performances Bon Jovi has grown accustomed to, Valentin and her drummer, upright bassist, pianist and trumpet player raised the bar of jazz bands, topping it off with the song’s guitar solos played on the trumpet.

A second video of Bon Jovi’s performance captured by wedding videographer Cool Coconut Studios shows the entire song including some cheering and singing from the bride and groom along with their tent full of wedding guests.

“Personally I have so much respect for this artist,” Valentin concluded in the introduction. “A man that gives back so much is to be respected and honored. It was a thrill to sing with such an amazing artist that graced his talent with me and my band. I will always be grateful for your giving heart.”
