Kat Von D’s Gothic and “Eccentrically Obscure” Wedding to Leafar Seyer Was Truly Personalized

When Kat Von D married Leafar Seyer this weekend, the beauty mogul sought a spectacular, non-traditional wedding that reflected her relationship to the lead singer of Prayers, much like the majority of couples marrying these days.

The famed tattoo artist thoughtfully mapped out a gothic-inspired, red-and-white filled wedding that featured everything from red velvet cake to vegan wax candles, and even specialty drinks named after their cats. There was a special performance by the bride (who played along on a red piano!) and an overall emotional roller coaster of a day.

Following the nuptials, Von D posted a photo of the pair exchanging vows at the base of a staircase. The bride chose a red gown and an elaborate headpiece with a long train held by a random person clad in a head-to-toe red latex suit. “We are spending today together reliving our vows, our beloved friends love, and all the artful beauty we created together,” she wrote on Sunday. “And I promise to share our epic wedding photos with you all soon as well as a bit more of our feelings about everything – as right now, we are both so overwhelmed with all the Love.”

Von D kept her promise and on Tuesday, June 5, she unveiled key moments from the nuptials. “Gonna share with you guys a few wedding photos today and tomorrow. Today I’ll post shots from the white ‘heaven’ space where all of our beautiful guests were first received, before entering the red ballroom,” she expressed on Instagram.

THE VENUE

The couple married at the swanky Beverly Hills Hotel in Beverly Hills, California before their family members and friends. “Guests first signed in on our long scroll, and then lead down the spiral staircase adorned with all-white floral arrangements, and carnation-covered crosses that stood more than 12 feet high,” Von D shared. The bride reiterated that carnations are her husband’s favorite flower.

The room was filled with white vegan leather couches, vegan wax candles, and vegan fur carpets. “Handmade gothic archways concealed this ballroom’s modern doors,” she mused. “Our drink menu featured 3 specialty drinks we named after our beloved cats, Piaf, Poe and Nietzsche. And finally in this room, our guests were handed their table assignments for seating on these beautifully personalized glass-like cards.”

The inside space, meanwhile, was entirely draped in red with floating candles. “And then guests entered our ceremony room,” she expressed.

…and then guests entered our ceremony room…

THE PLANNER

The couple tapped Michele Fox Gott of Center of Attention Events to design their space. “Lastly, our BIGGEST thank you goes to our amazing wedding planner Michele Fox Gott,” Von D wrote, “for making our vision for our eccentrically obscure wedding come to life! We love you, Michele!!!”

Gott took to Instagram to react to her work for the couple. “Kat texted me within two hours of her elopement to ask if I would plan the wedding. Well…..YES. So honored that she entrusted me to oversee every detail. We worked with an incredible team of seasoned professionals to create her magical wonderland,” she expressed. “Now about that red wedding dress. Little history lesson, wedding dresses were traditionally red until Queen Victoria’s wedding 175 years ago when she betrothed Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in a white wedding gown. Still today many Asian brides still wear a red dress as a sign of auspiciousness and prosperity.”

Thrilled to share these gorgeous moments from @thekatvond and @prayers sacred wedding ceremony. Kat texted me within two hours of her elopement to ask if I would plan the wedding. Well…..YES. Our Goth Goddess donned a wedding gown and red antlers by @majestyblack and an amazing veil by @asanchezfashion. I adore her ode to nature with those red antlers. Photo by @look_fotografia. THE CAKE

The couple, both vegans, co-designed a red velvet cake shaped like a castle that was a whopping five-feet tall. “Instead of getting a typical bride+groom topper, our lighting team had the genius idea of projecting video footage of @prayers and i waving and blowing kisses to all our guests!” she shared.

THE VOWS

Guests teared up as they witnessed the expectant pair solidify their union. “Taking our vows in front of our closest friends + family was one of the most spiritually bonding experiences I have ever had,” she wrote. “I don’t think @prayers and I were prepared to cry as much as we did – in the most beautiful way possible. The silent moments prior to beginning our vows where we held hands and stared into each others eyes the entire world dissipated around us – that was just as meaningful to us the vows we made.”

THE ENTERTAINMENT

The couple asked their close friends to perform their favorite songs at the nuptials, and later, Von D herself took to the piano to perform a special tune for her husband.

“A special thank you to our talented friends who performed songs at our wedding that made @prayers and I cry a second time!” she wrote. “I wanted to sing @prayers our song [which happens to be: “Into My Arms” by Nick Cave] at our wedding. At first @prayers was sitting at our little throne table, but after the first verse he started walking down toward me and the piano, and I just lost it… Rafael, I love the way you make me feel bulletproof and fragile all at the same time. [ps. thank you to @yamahamusicusa for lending us your beautiful red piano for our wedding].”
