It’s not easy being she! Kate Mara opened up about her relationship with fiancé Jamie Bell in a recent interview with People magazine, and the Megan Leavey star admitted that it takes a lot of work between fellow actors.
“In our business, it’s always a little bit tricky to navigate things because it’s not like a normal job where you know where you’re going to be the next year, let alone the next day. You just don’t,” she told the publication. According to Mara, flexibility is truly the key to their successful relationship.
“You constantly have to shift things, and communicate,” she said. “Like asking, ‘What’s your deal with that show or with this movie,’ to make sure that you actually can see each other.”
Mara, 34, and Bell, 31, met on the set of 2015 blockbuster Fantastic Four, and were spotted together frequently shortly after the film had wrapped. The couple got engaged in this past January, and have been keeping their romance largely out of the spotlight since.
This year alone, Mara has four movies in the works—Megan Leavey, The Heyday of the Insensitive Bastards, Mercy, and Chappaquiddick. Bell’s Revolutionary War-era drama, Turn, aired its final episode this past April.
But, Mara said, she and Bell are both “on the same page” in terms of prioritizing time with family over work, which can be challenging.
“You have to find ways of sacrificing work so that you can be with your family,” she explained. “I think that’s the most important thing, especially when you’re in a relationship with another actor, because it’s tricky.”
