By now, Kate Upton has modeled along some of the world’s most pristine and remote beaches, which is why she’s pushing for a slightly different concept for her upcoming honeymoon.
Upton, 24, who landed her third Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue cover this week, shared more details about her engagement to MLB player Justin Verlander while promoting her latest feature. Most recently, the couple got started on wedding planning and shared their list of essentials–beginning with four key words: “fun,” “party,” “tequila,” and “food.”
The future bride’s perfect honeymoon getaway with Verlander will likely include all of the above—and even more adventure. “I want to go on a safari for the honeymoon so bad,” she expressed to People Now on Friday, February 17. “But he’s not… I don’t know. Every year I tell him I want to go on a safari.”
Instead, Verlander will find semi-suitable alternatives to the actual, physical jaunt of safari expeditions. “Every year for a gift, he’ll get me like a stuffed animal tiger,” she joked. “Or like, flowers from Africa… Not the same.”
Upton added during her appearance Friday that they’re struggling a bit with the wedding guest list. “We haven’t done any details,” she shared. “We are getting married, but it’s really hard. Everyone’s always like, ‘Invite whoever you want. Do whatever you want. Don’t feel bad about it.’ But you feel bad!”
The couple got engaged last year right before spring training kicked off for the Detroit Lions pitcher. After keeping the moment private for a bit, the model revealed the news last May at the annual Met Gala in NYC, where she also debuted her ring.
“I’m really excited,” Upton told E! on the red carpet. “He asked me right before season started so we’ve been keeping it on the down low for quite a while. So, I’m excited to finally be able to share it with the world!”
