Model Kayla Rae Reid certainly set the tone for her wedding weekend when she kicked off the festivities in a head-turning custom jumpsuit by bridal designer Rime Arodaky.
The couple’s rustic rehearsal dinner was held the night before at the Morrow Ranch in La Quinta. For the occasion, the mom of one commissioned the Parisian designer with a custom version that mixed two of her celebrated pieces.
“Kayla was a fan of our work and reached out for us to imagine a one-of-a-kind look for her,” Arodaky tells The Knot. “Naturally, I accepted right away since she’s definitely one of my girl crushes.”
The French designer explains that Reid had a specific vibe in mind when she approached the designer, and was very hands-on with the look. The end result was a jumpsuit featuring a delicate, embroidered tulle train and a matching overlay that delicately revealed a white bodice.
Reid, 27, topped her look with silver pumps, natural makeup, diamond earrings and a classic, messy ponytail. “She wanted something effortless with a lot of intricate details, so we brainstormed together, mixing different patterns, embroideries and sketches to create this custom jumpsuit for her rehearsal ceremony,” Arodaky says. “It ended up being a mix of our Patsy jumpsuit and our Blair gown.”
Reid pulled off the look beautifully, Arodaky says, in large part because it matched her personality so well. “The jumpsuits we create have a lot of transparency and intricate embroideries and details,” she muses, “so ideally our bride appreciates our savoir-faire.”
Reid’s choice to go with a more nontraditional look is part of a trend of brides going against the grain of more commonly worn silhouettes, Arodaky adds.
“More brides have been adopting a more modern take on [traditional bridal options] by wearing rompers, jumpsuits or whatever looks that’ll make them feel comfortable on their day,” she says. “We’ve seen jumpsuits be one of our bestselling categories and we’re not surprised! Who doesn’t love a chic jumpsuit?”
Indeed, other celebs to opt for jumpsuits with wedding-related events include Solange Knowles and Kaley Cuoco.
Lochte, 34, and Reid previously got married at a Gainsville, Florida, courthouse in January with the Olympian’s father, Steven, as a witness. They began dating in early 2016 and Lochte proposed that same October. The pair share a son together, one-year-old Caiden Zane.
They married at their second wedding in Palm Springs, California, on Sunday, September 9. On the actual day of the ceremony, Reid chose a gown by Galia Lahav. “I tried on so many dresses and I just fell in love with it,” she told People. “I went to multiple places and I was like, ‘I have to go back and try that on one more time!'”
