Keshia Knight Pulliam and Ed Hartwell pulled a fast one on their families and fans, marrying during a fake New Year’s party the same weekend the couple got engaged!
Though she was just engaged when she showed off her diamond ring with the words “Happy to spend not only my new year but my life with this guy,” on her Instagram account this New Year’s Eve, before the weekend was over the former Cosby Show actress was spoken for!
On the Friday, January 22 two-part episode of her Kandidly Keshia podcast titled “New Year, New Beginnings,” Pulliam shared the news with listeners by inviting her former NFL-playing husband and the couple’s wedding officiant Raymond Coleman onto the show.
“I’ve had a pretty exciting new year. As all of you know on Instagram I had announced my engagement,” the actress and entrepreneur started, not giving anything away. “There was a lot of like confusion and what have you about that, but you guys finally figured it out. You know my engagement was to Mister Ed Hartwell who I have in the studio.”
Pulliam continued to prep her listeners for the big news by discussing the couple’s family-focused holiday plans, sharing that the two spent time with both their families up at cabins in the Georgia mountains and then joined together with other extended family members at their home in Atlanta days later.
“When we came back from the cabin then we had even more family come in town to spend the New Year with us,” the bride said. “We literally had a house full of family from the 22nd of December to the 4th of January.”
Finally getting to the big news, Pulliam explained that though she freely posted about their engagement on her Instagram account, she opted to keep their wedding a secret for a little longer. But, with “a lot of excitement around when we’ll get married, and what we’ll do, and if we’re married,” Pulliam couldn’t keep the news private anymore!
“This is definitely my husband,” she said. “We’re definitely married.”
After the podcast was up and running, Pulliam also shared a photo on her Instagram account of she and Hartwell exchanging a kiss. In front of a backdrop of plush flowers, Pulliam’s hair is curled to perfection and a glimpse of her white veil and Hartwell’s sleek tuxedo can be seen. She captioned the photo, “The most AMAZING day of our life!!!” and used the hashtag “#IAmOfficiallyMrsHartwell” to share the news.
The couple shared details about their big day for Kandidly Keshia including that they “did it literally in our living room.”
“We invited people they had no clue they were coming to a wedding,” the actress laughed. “They just thought they were coming to a New Year’s party.” But everything went better than they hoped, the bride saying “It was my dream” while thanking their officiant and her husband for “making that dream come true.”
“It was one of the most beautiful ceremonies that I had the opportunity to officiate,” Coleman piped in. “And I mean that in terms of the energy that was emitted. There was so much love in that room that it was phenomenal.”
“It was FUN!” Pulliam gushed, to which Hartwell replied, “We had a great time. You talk about dreams. Both our dreams came true that day.” How romantic!
The bride and groom had nothing but thank you after thank you to dish out, adding how special it was for each person who was invited to not only work the sneaky wedding party, but also stay and enjoy the celebration with the couple after the festivities’ true intentions were revealed.
“And no, I’m not pregnant” the bride joked, citing comments about their speedy nuptials being a “shotgun wedding.”
“But I hope to be soon!” she added.
Even more congratulations to Keshia Knight Pulliam and Ed Hartwell on your New Year’s engagement and wedding! What an amazing way to begin 2016!
