The gorgeous newlyweds—who were accompanied to the black-tie occasion by their beloved wedding planner Mikie Russo—shared some new details about their summertime nuptials with The Knot’s co-founder Carley Roney.
“It was so much fun!” Herjavec reminisced inside the New York Public Library. “The dancing! My favorite part was seeing Kym come down the aisle. Made me cry. She looked so beautiful.”
The couple memorably fell in love after being paired as dance partners on season 20 of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars. Like her Shark Tank spouse, Johnson’s favorite moment from the wedding took place during the ceremony.
“The vows,” she told The Knot on Monday. “Everyone says that moment is really special, but nothing can prepare you for when you’re up there. It was really amazing. When they said, ‘You’re now husband and wife,’ that was like, ‘Oh my gosh.’ The vows… that was the best part for me.”
Russo, who was tasked with orchestrating the lavish affair, says he felt the pressure—for the sake of his longtime friendship with the pro dancer.
“I’ve obviously known Kym for a very, very long time,” the Michael Russo Events founder said at the annual gala, which brings together the best of the best in the wedding industry. “There was a joy in that sense, but Kym had a lot of timed numbers that we needed to hit.”
Johnson chimed in and mentioned the surprises she had planned with her husband. As previously reported, Herjavec shocked his wife with a performance by Olivia Newton John, while she gifted him with a Croatian dance show. “I had some Croatian dancers, because he always wanted to be a Croatian. I thought it was a really great surprise until he came out with Olivia Newton John,” Johnson shared.
“She married me!” Herjavec adorably noted. “That was the best surprise for everyone.”
In a separate interview on the red carpet, Johnson told reporters that their relationship is even better now that they’re officially husband and wife. “There’s a sense of different closeness,” she mused. “It’s very much the same in some ways, but I think a closer bond.”
It helps that Herjavec displays his affection with tiny-but-swoon-worthy gestures. “He just went out to the gym and left a note in the hotel that read, ‘I love you,’” Johnson revealed. “He does things like that all the time. He’s really sweet.”
