Good morning, engagement! Lara Spencer, the co-host of ABC’s Good Morning America, is engaged to entrepreneur Rick McVey.
The journalist’s rep confirmed the engagement to People on Friday, January 5. The couple first met on a blind date that was arranged by a friend. They dated for two years before McVey recently proposed.
McVey is the CEO of MarketAxess Holdings, a New York-based financial tech company, which has been a major contributor in modernizing electronic bond trading systems on Wall Street. “I always wanted to work on Wall Street,” McVey told Fortune in December 2014. “But I never imagined the magnitude of what’s happening now—that I’d have a role in changing how Wall Street actually works.”
The businessman has made frequent appearances on Spencer’s Instagram account, which includes the couple’s romantic getaway to Paris last year.
One of McVey’s friends spoke out about his personality in the same Fortune piece, telling the magazine: “Rick is just an all-American guy. You’d never have mistaken him for an entrepreneur, a rich banker, an innovator—and certainly not a revolutionary.”
Spencer, who joined GMA in 1999, was previously married to David Haffenreffer until 2015. Together, the exes share two teenagers, Katharine and Duff.
