Are they or aren’t they? Liam Hemsworth has finally addressed the ongoing debate surrounding his engagement to Miley Cyrus — well, sort of.

In a new interview with GQ Australia, the 26-year old Australian actor opened up about his high-profile on-again romance with Cyrus, 23.

“People will figure it out, they already have… They’re not dumb,” the Hunger Games hunk told the mag. “I guess when I feel something, then I just feel it and I go for it.”

He’s more of an in-the-moment type of guy. “I make my decisions about what’s going to make me happy, what I think is right, and what I want to do,” he mused. “And I don’t worry too much outside of that.”

Hemsworth is well-aware of the fascination with his relationship, but he’s not paying it any mind. “I don’t read or listen to the press,” he admitted, “and these days I don’t base my decisions on it at all. I base all my decisions on what’s happening in front of me and I’m much happier by doing that.”

Although the two have spent quality time together in Australia, Hemsworth is all about the West Coast over the Gold Coast. “Living here is just so much better for my mind,” he told GQ. “I grew up by the beach, surfing, and I’m much more conditioned to that sort of lifestyle… I wanted to get back to the beach. I needed it, to be by the water and to be able to go surfing.”

Hemsworth and Cyrus first met in 2010 on the set of The Last Song, the film adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks’ novel. Their on-screen romance developed into a real-life love story, though they parted ways in 2013 when they called off their engagement.

“Of course it was hard, man,” the actor recalled of the breakup. “But at the time, we were going in different directions and it’s just what needed to happen. We were both super young and it was a good decision at the time – we both needed that.”

The two have come a long way since then. Cyrus will soon join Alicia Keys as a new coach on NBC’s The Voice alongside Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. Hemsworth is set to star in the highly anticipated film, Independence Day: Resurgence, set to hit theaters in June.
