This engagement is so fetch! Mean Girls actress Lizzy Caplan and her English actor/producer boyfriend Tom Riley are engaged, her rep confirms to The Knot.
Caplan, 34, who is currently working on the small screen in the Showtime drama Masters of Sex was spotted cuddling up to Riley, 35, in Los Angeles on Friday, July 22. But it wasn’t the grocery store or their PDA that had heads turning; Caplan was wearing a very sentimental diamond accessory on her left hand!
Riley and Caplan — who memorably played Janis Ian in Tina Fey’s Mean Girls — first met in London while the actress was filming in 2015, but didn’t make their first public appearance as a couple until the 2016 Prague Opera Ball in February. After the diamond engagement ring was spotted on her hand yesterday, questions were raised about a secret proposal.
Riley proposed while they were in New York City this past May, keeping it quiet from the public for months!
She’s not the only Mean Girls star who’s recently found love after the bully-comedy phenomenon. Her co-star Daniel Franzese (Damian) also escaped the fate of the dreaded “Burn Book” with a marriage proposal!
Franzese got engaged to his boyfriend Joseph Bradley Phillips earlier this week and the proposal was caught on camera and shared on Youtube on Wednesday, July 20.
Unlike Caplan’s very private proposal, Franzese, 38, popped the question where all could see: a Starbucks in North Hollywood where the actor first met his fashion designer beau. A barista presented Phillips with the wrong order – a cup inscribed with “Mr. & Mr. Franzese” – and when Phillips opened the cup to discover an engagement ring, Franzese dropped to one knee to ask for his hand in marriage.
So which of the 2004 cult classic Mean Girls actors will get married first? Janis Ian or Damian?
