Mandy Moore can thank Instagram’s existence for her future marriage. The star of NBC’s This Is Us shared in a new interview that her first official “conversation” with Taylor Goldsmith just happened to take place on social media.
An artist herself, the former pop idol took to Instagram one day to express her appreciation for Dawes, which Goldsmith leads. “I took a picture of their album and posted it on Instagram,” Moore told People in its latest cover story. “Somehow, Taylor saw it and sent a note to me.”
That initial conversation turned into more in-depth talks, shifting from social media to other mediums. “We started emailing back and forth, then we went on a date and the rest is history,” she continued. “Thanks Instagram, for helping me meet my fiancé!”
Refinery29 scrolled through Moore’s feed to find the supposed post, shared on May 17, 2015. (The singer and her former husband, Ryan Adams, announced their separation in January 2015.) “Real excited about this one,” she wrote a the time. “Have a feeling it’s going to be the soundtrack of my summer. #Dawes#rightontime.”
Along with the origin of her romance, the future bride also revealed another tidbit about dating Goldsmith. “We spent hours FaceTiming each other,” she said. “We fell in love before we’d even really held hands or kissed or anything. It was great.”
In September, Goldsmith proposed to Moore with a beautiful ring. “It was an emotional moment,” the Tangled star added. “We are both pretty quiet, private people. I never imagined myself with some beautiful dress in front of 300 people. It will be quiet and private—just for us.”
