This is her time to shine. Mandy Moore learned that she was nominated for a 2017 Golden Globe from her This Is Us co-star and on-screen husband, Milo Ventimiglia.
Moore was up early on Monday, December 12—West Coast time—with boyfriend Taylor Goldsmith when Ventimiglia broke the news that she was nominated. “I just woke up with him and my phone lit up shortly thereafter. I was like, ‘Oh, yeah, the Golden Globe nominations,’ but I certainly was not expecting to be recognized for the show,” she told Entertainment Weekly on Monday. “Milo was actually the one who texted me and was like, ‘Congratulations, Mandy!’ I was like, ‘Wait, on what? The show got nominated?’ He’s like, ‘No, you did!’”
Moore was stunned. “My jaw was definitely on the ground and I just started shaking. I’ve never been nominated for anything in my life,” the Walk to Remember star reflected. “I feel like I’m on another planet right now. It’s so exciting, but I’m most excited about the show getting nominated.”
The emotional new NBC drama is up against Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, Westworld and The Crown in the category of Best Television Series – Drama. Moore, meanwhile, is up against The Night Manager’s Olivia Colman, Game of Thrones’ Lena Headey, Westworld’s Thandie Newton, and her colleague Chrissy Metz in the category of Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.
Moore, though, is excited to be nominated alongside Metz. “It’s not competition,” she told EW. “Chrissy Metz is just on another level. She is an exceptional woman and actress and her heart and her humor. I’m thrilled to be able to share this little journey with her for the next couple weeks and we get to go through it together.”
In the series, Ventimiglia and Moore portray Jack and Rebecca Pearson, a devoted couple raising their three beautiful children—Kevin (Justin Hartley), Kate (Metz) and Randall (Sterling K. Brown). The emotionally-charged storylines unfold over the course of several decades as the couple and the kids face various life challenges.
Ventimiglia, though snubbed for his portrayal of the family patriarch, praised his colleagues for their latest accomplishments on Monday.
