News of Robbie’s secret wedding broke on Monday after Australia’s The Daily Telegraph reported that the Wolf of Wall Street beauty and Ackerley had exchanged vows in Byron Bay. The bride fueled wedding speculation after she was spotted at the airport last week wearing a T-shirt that read, “Say ‘I Do’ Down Under.’”
According to the U.K.’s Telegraph, Robbie was given away by her mother as she remains estranged from her father.
Robbie and Ackerley first met on the set of 2014 war drama Suite Française. At the time, she wasn’t looking to settle down anytime soon. “I was the ultimate single gal. The idea of relationships made me want to vomit,” Robbie told Vogue this past May. “And then this crept up on me.”
Their friendship evolved into romance. “I was always in love with him, but I thought, ‘Oh, he would never love me back. Don’t make it weird, Margot. Don’t be stupid and tell him that you like him,’” she recalled. “And then it happened, and I was like, ‘Of course we’re together. This makes so much sense, the way nothing has ever made sense before.’”
