It’s safe to say Margot Robbie is a fan of marriage. The Oscar nominee opened up about her otherwise private relationship with producer Tom Ackerley in a new interview published Friday, November 30.
“Being married is actually the most fun ever,” the Mary Queen of Scots actress told Porter magazine. “Life got way more fun somehow. I have a responsibility being someone’s wife, I want to be better.”
The couple married quietly in December 2016. It wasn’t even known that she was engaged prior to the surprise wedding revelation, which took place in her native Australia in the scenic enclave of Byron Bay.
After the wedding, the two have been rather intentional about spending quality time together. “Even if we both have to fly to a country in between where we both are for one night, we’ll do it and then fly back to work the next day,” she told the publication. “And we speak all day every day on the phone.”
The couple first met as roommates in a home share. “We kept it a secret,” she told the Guardian earlier this year. “Because we weren’t really taking it seriously. ‘Oh, whatever, we’re just mates, we’re just mates.’ And then… everyone found out.”
She added, “It was dramatic. I’m not going into the details, but s—t hit the fan. Our house turned into The Jerry Springer Show for a moment there. But then the dust settled, and it was all good.”
