Meg Ryan is glowing in the way only newly engaged individuals can. The rom-com veteran walked the red carpet at an event at the Friar’s Club in NYC Monday night, and the only thing that shone brighter than her smile was the diamond sparkler on her left ring finger, given to her by her now-fiancé, John Mellencamp.
Ryan, 56, didn’t bother trying to hide her diamond engagement ring, which sits on a solid gold band, nor the thin diamond band that she wore to accompany the telltale ring. The actress wore a stunning long-sleeved sheer Roland Mouret gown with a high neckline, fitted bodice, floor-length, flowing skirt and intricate embroidery.
In addition to her diamond engagement ring, Ryan also donned a few other pieces of diamond jewelry, including hoop earrings, a bracelet and a flower ring to compliment the floral-and-vine design on her dress.
Ryan first confirmed the happy news to her fans late last week, with a silly post to Instagram depicting herself and Mellencamp, 67, as stick figures holding hands. The When Harry Met Sally actress simply captioned the image with the word: “ENGAGED!”
She and Mellencamp have had an on-again, off-again relationship over the last seven years. They began dating in 2011 but split in 2014 because, as the singer put it, “I’m a child. I throw fits, I gripe, I complain. I’m moody. Every bad thing that a fella can be, that’s me.”
The pair reunited, much to Mellencamp’s surprise, in early 2017, and have been spotted going on dates together in NYC and elsewhere. Earlier this year, Mellencamp even purchased a $2.3 million apartment in NYC’s SoHo neighborhood.
