Harry and Meghan forever. Meghan Markle has publicly declared her love for Prince Harry in a new interview published Tuesday, September 5, amid speculation that the two are secretly engaged.
In a new cover story for Vanity Fair, Markle opens up (ever-so-slightly) about her high-profile relationship with the world’s most eligible royal. “I can tell you that at the end of the day I think it’s really simple,” Markle told the magazine. “We’re two people who are really happy and in love.”
She added, “We were very quietly dating for six months before it became news, and I was working during that whole time, and the only thing that changed was people’s perception. Nothing about me changed. I’m still the same person that I am, and I’ve never defined myself by my relationship.”
In the piece, VF confirms that the two met via mutual pals in July 2016. At some point, Harry was forced to confirm his romance last November in a scathing statement targeted at the gross invasion of privacy inflicted upon Markle’s daily life.
“It has its challenges, and it comes in waves—some days it can feel more challenging than others,” the actress told the mag of the constant attention. “And right out of the gate, it was surprising the way things changed. But I still have this support system all around me, and, of course, my boyfriend’s support.”
She also ignores the chatter. In fact, Markle rarely scans the internet for news about herself. “I don’t read any press. I haven’t even read press for ‘Suits,’” she claimed to VF. “The people who are close to me anchor me in knowing who I am. The rest is noise.”
The couple attended Pippa Middleton and James Matthews’ wedding reception together in Bucklebury in May 2017. Most recently, the two enjoyed an extended getaway in parts of Africa to celebrate the Suits star’s 36th birthday. There have been numerous reports that the two are supposedly engaged, but another future royal wedding will not be confirmed until Kensington Palace officially makes the announcement.
