They’re now pronounced husband and wife! Meghan Markle and Prince Harry shared a sweet kiss on the steps of St. George’s Chapel on Saturday, May 19, to publicly mark their official debut as married newlyweds.

Prince Harry’s brother Prince William and his blushing bride Kate Middleton similarly exchanged a smooch immediately following their nuptials back in 2011, though theirs famously took place on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. (Prince Charles and Princess Diana also shared their first public kiss on the balcony of Buckingham Palace).

On Saturday, the gathered crowd of well-wishers erupted in cheers as the beaming couple made their way down the steps toward their waiting carriage, the Ascot Landau carriage from the Royal Mews, which pays tribute to Harry’s late mother Princess Diana. Though the royal fans pushed for the couple to steal another kiss for the cameras, the couple refrained, instead climbing into the carriage to begin their long ride through the town of Windsor to greet fans.

The sweet moment marks the first time the couple has exchanged a kiss in public since Harry gave Markle a kiss on the cheek during the Invictus Games closing ceremony last September.
