Meghan McCain is happily engaged, but don’t make a big deal about it or anything. The View cohost opened up about her recent engagement on the show Thursday, after it was revealed that she and a mystery man were set to wed.
“You may have read something about me on the Internet last night,” she said, confirming, “I am engaged. We’ve been together for years, we’ve been engaged for a while. It was a secret. I was hoping people wouldn’t find out, but people talk sometimes.”
The New York Post’s Page Six revealed Wednesday night that the 33-year-old political scion is engaged to Ben Domenech, a conservative writer and publisher for online magazine The Federalist.
Domenech, 35, confirmed the news with a simple tweet and the words, “Love you bae” Wednesday night.
On Thursday’s episode of The View, McCain explained that the couple had gotten engaged shortly after her father, Sen. John McCain, had undergone a cancer scare.
“We were at Mayo Clinic and my father had his scan, and we got engaged because we decided to sort of celebrate life and celebrate being alive,” she said, joking that the story wasn’t exactly the most romantic. Her co-host, Joy Behar, insisted, “It’s very romantic!”
The bride-to-be’s father also chimed in on the topic via Twitter.
Thank you Senator. Your story will the good man teach his son, and with all humility, I hope someday to do that. https://t.co/8nSGHZfYTi

McCain further downplayed the engagement hoopla by noting to her all-female co-hosts that she wants to make it clear that she doesn’t view getting engaged as “an achievement.”
“I want all the single girls out there to know, I don’t consider this an achievement,” she said. “It’s just part of my life right now.”
