The Most Noteworthy Couple Moments of the 2019 Met Gala

Any time the red carpet rolls out (or in this case, the pink carpet), you can bet there’ll be some major celebrity couples on the guest list. The 2019 Met Gala was no exception. This year, the event welcomed a notable number of newlyweds—some arriving together and some surprisingly solo! It also brought out a few super-private pairs, both shocking and delighting fans. We’re spotlighting those (and some other buzz-worthy) moments below.

Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin

The Biebz didn’t personally attend the star-studded event, but he still made it known that he’s wife Hailey Baldwin’s biggest fan. The singer posted a photo of Baldwin to his Instagram Stories Monday night, with the caption: “STUNNING GOO GOO.” For those wondering what Bieber might have meant by the comment, it was later revealed that “Goo Goo” is his pet name for the model! And Baldwin really did stun in a backless, skin-tight, light-pink gown by Alexander Wang.

Jamie Foxx and Katie Holmes

Jamie Foxx and Katie Holmes, who notoriously keep their romance out of the public eye, turned heads by making their relationship Met Gala official. Holmes wore a custom purple Zac Posen gown (made of 300 yards of tulle!) while Fox wore a black suit and tie, a sequined black panther pin, plus purple shoes to complement Holmes’ dress.

Idris Elba and Sabrina Dhowre

Just one week after exchanging vows in Morocco, newlyweds Idris Elba and Sabrina Dhowre rocked the pink carpet as a married couple. (It marks their second appearance together; Dhowre made her Met Gala debut last year.) Elba donned a colorful suit with a patterned jacket, while Dhowre sparkled in a metallic gown. Her hair was short and pink for the evening, a nod to the night’s over-the-top theme: “Camp: Notes on Fashion.”

Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner

Elba and Dhowre’s quick wedding-to-red-carpet turnaround was beat perhaps only by Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner, who got hitched in a surprise Vegas wedding just days ago after the Billboard Music Awards. The Game of Thrones star opted out of the more traditional Met Gala gown and instead went with a sequin-embellished custom Louis Vuitton two-piece that looked like a jumpsuit. Jonas was equally well-dressed in a coordinating (read: super-cute) black ensemble.

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas

Joe’s younger brother Nick and his recent bride, Priyanka Chopra, also made their married debut at the 2019 Met Gala. But fans will remember that this definitely isn’t the first time they’ve gone as a duo. Back in 2017, the pair attended together (in matching Ralph Lauren, none the less), though they denied relationship rumors at the time. Fast-forward two years, and the fashionable pair is happily married (they wed in Mumbai back in December) and ready to start a new chapter in their lives together. Chopra wore a silver Dior Haute Couture gown with super-chic accents like a cape and Chopard jewelry. Jonas wore a Dior Men tux and Chopard jewels too.

Kerry Washington and Nnamdi Asomugha

Kerry Washington and husband Nnamdi Asomugha made a very rare appearance together at Monday night’s Met Gala. The pair attended the star-studded event last year, but opted not to walk the red carpet together—and have frequently opted not to walk red carpets together in the past. But on Monday, Washington practically glowed in a peach Tory Burch gown with the words “Negativity is Noise” written all over it. She finished off the look with a Lorraine Schwartz headband and earrings. Asomugha, a former NFL player, donned a blue tuxedo, downplaying his look to play up Washington’s bright shine.

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth

Though the couple has been on-again, off-again for upwards of a decade now, Monday night actually marked their first Met Gala red carpet as a married couple. The pair, who married in a secret, intimate wedding ceremony at Cyrus’s home last December, were cool, calm and collected as they posed on the red carpet together. Cyrus wore a striped Yves Saint Laurent sequin dress with sheer, dotted leggings. Hemsworth, meanwhile, wore head-to-toe black, giving his wife the main stage.

Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez

They’re the #CoupleGoals this year needs. Newly engaged Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez were picture-perfect on the pink carpet this year, in looks that—like them—complemented each other greatly. Lopez dazzled in a silver, beaded, plunging Versace dress and a shimmery flapper-style cap. Rodriguez looked dapper in a lilac-colored suit jacket and bow tie; he accessorized with a bright, totally-in-love smile.
