Fooled everyone! Record-breaking Olympian Michael Phelps and his fiancee, Nicole Johnson, are already legally married, TMZ reported on Wednesday, October 26.
The site first revealed on Wednesday that the parents of sweet baby Boomer—who memorably captivated the world’s attention this past August—have already eased into their roles as husband and wife. The two got married on June 13, a few months before Phelps took center-stage at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
According to TMZ, the pair exchanged vows in Paradise Valley, Arizona, in a ceremony that was officiated by Phelps’ agent, Peter Carlisle.
The site also reported that the couple got their marriage license on June 9. Two days after the ceremony, Phelps and Johnson filed their Record of Marriage, which TMZ obtained and revealed on Wednesday.
The couple tricked everyone into believing that they were getting married later this year. In an interview with Access Hollywood this past August, Johnson even spoke about planning the nuptials.
“We have a date. It’ll be a small and intimate wedding,” the former Miss California teased in the interview. “And then we’re throwing a massive bash for everyone in the States, so we’re kind of getting things rolling. I’m kind of planning as we’ve been leading up to this. So I think I have the wedding in order and it’s on to the party for the fun.”

Prior to their engagement, the couple dated on-again and off-again for nearly eight years. The stars briefly split, but ultimately reconciled after Phelps’ stint in rehab.
“When we finally did [reconcile], it was still a little rocky in figuring things out,” Johnson added in the same interview. “[We were] figuring each other out because there had been some time, but we didn’t miss a beat. We’re happy and we’ve been back together … and now we have a little one, a wedding at the end of this year, so it’s been a lot of fun.”
