Going the distance together. Michael Phelps celebrated nine happy years with his fiancee, Nicole Johnson, on Sunday, July 10. In a sweet new Instagram message, the Olympian expressed his love for his bride-to-be and their infant son, Boomer.
“So thankful to have met my better half 9 years ago today!” the 31-year old competitive swimmer wrote. “I love you so much @nicole.m.johnson …. So happy to be able to call you my best friend! And I’m looking forward to the future and watching our amazing healthy little boy @boomerrphelps grow!!”
Phelps wasn’t the only one to express his gratitude via love letter on social media. His fiancee beat him to the punch, posting a photo of the family of three, along with a heartfelt message.
“9 years ago today you walked into my life @m_phelps00,” the 30-year old former Miss California shared. “Who knew through all the ups and downs that 9 years later we would have started to build our family. I love you and I can’t wait for what our future holds!!”

Phelps has a lot to be thankful for! Along with celebrating nine years with Johnson and welcoming his son – who was born on May 5, he’s also preparing for the Rio Olympic Games next month.
In preparation for the worldwide event, he just completed the U.S. Olympic Trials in Omaha, Nebraska. His fiancee and son even made the trip to the Cornhusker State from their home in Arizona.
Baby Boomer is already documenting his adventures on his very own Instagram page. One photo shows the little cutie in the pool with his mom and Olympian dad.
With his family cheering him on, we have no doubt Phelps will make waves in the best of ways next month in Rio!
