Michael Phelps is taking full advantage of his retirement from competitive swimming. The record-breaking Olympian – who won five gold medals and one silver at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio – is back in the water for some much-needed time with his family.
Just four days after his final race, the 31-year-old athlete posted a photo on Wednesday, August 17, of himself enjoying relaxing pool time with his beloved family back in the States.
In the adorable Instagram image, the proud dad holds his 3-month old son, Boomer. His beautiful wife, Nicole Johnson, joins her two main men for a relaxing dip in the water. “There’s nothing like being back home!!” Phelps captioned the family photo, which features baby Boomer donning a white sunhat. “Great way to spend my first day in retirement!! @boomerrphelps @nicole.m.johnson.”
Phelps had no shortage of support during his impressive run at this year’s Olympic Games, but his soon-to-be bride is undoubtedly his biggest fan. “So excited to spend a lil r&r with these 2!! @m_phelps00 @boomerrphelps #mymen,” Johnson, 31, captioned a photo of her fiance and son as the family of three traveled back home from Rio.

Now that Phelps is a retired man, he has plenty of time to focus on his upcoming wedding. He will marry Johnson later this year in a “small, intimate” wedding. However, after they make their union official, this dynamic duo is ready to party.
“We’re throwing a massive bash for everyone in the States,” Johnson revealed in a recent interview with Access Hollywood. “So we’re kind of getting things rolling. I’m kind of planning as we’ve been leading up to this. So I think I have the wedding in order and it’s on to the party for the fun.”
