She’s making it work! Miley Cyrus finally got candid about her engagement ring from Liam Hemsworth on the Ellen DeGeneres Show on Thursday, October 27.
DeGeneres got straight to the point about the diamond ring, which Cyrus has been wearing again since her reconciliation with Hemsworth this past January.
“There is a photo that got a lot of attention of your engagement ring,” DeGeneres noted. “Congratulations.”
Cyrus, who felt at ease with the longtime host, commented on the sparkler. “This is really weird because this is like real jewelry,” she replied. “And most of my jewelry is made out of gummy bears and cotton candy and they don’t look that good together because they kind of mix up, so sometimes I replace it with an actual unicorn or a Looney Tune.”
Sometimes, that doesn’t settle well with Hemsworth. “And he’s kind of like, ‘What’s going on?’ It’s like, ‘Well, this isn’t really my aesthetic, but I’ll wear it because you love me.'”
Hemsworth first proposed to Cyrus in 2012 with the 3.5-carat cushion-cut ring by Neil Lane. The piece included floral motifs that were carved into the 18-carat gold setting. The center stone, meanwhile, was an antique piece that was sourced from the 19th century.
A year later, the Last Song co-stars called off their engagement. In an interview with GQ Australia this past summer, Hemsworth addressed that painful period. “Of course it was hard, man,” he expressed. “But we were both going in different directions and it’s just what needed to happen. We were both super young and it was a good decision at the time — we both needed that.”
