Miley Cyrus has a new name. The multi-hyphenate, who married Liam Hemsworth over the holidays, is taking the actor’s last name, he revealed in a new interview with Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest on Friday, February 8.
It was Hemsworth’s first time catching up with the show hosts since his impromptu nuptials, and the actor emphasized his wife’s new name: “Miley Ray Hemsworth now, actually.”
“She will still be obviously known as Miley Cyrus,” Hemsworth revealed. “But she took my name, which is great. That was honestly one of the best things about it. I didn’t ask her to take my name, but she was like, ‘No. Of course I’m taking your name.'”
Hemsworth recalled how he was rather emotional initially and jokingly acted his response out on Live. “That’s awesome,” he cracked, feigning tears. “That’s really good.”
Since their wedding day, the couple has been openly affectionate about their new marriage. Just last month, Hemsworth gave Cyrus a shot-out while accepting an award, referring to his wife as his “sweet, sweet angel.” Despite the pet names, both are growing accustomed to referring to each other as “husband” and “wife.”
“It’s become a little more normal,” Hemsworth confessed. “But the first couple of weeks it was, umm… I mean, it’s only been a month and a half, but the first couple of weeks were really foreign to me with ‘wife’ and ‘husband.'”
Since then, he’s found a semi-solution. “I just have her in as ‘wife’ in my phone now.”
