It took a year for Missy Peregrym’s now-husband, Tom Oakley, to track down a pair of special, sentimental footwear that the FBI actress was able to wear on her wedding day.

Peregrym appeared on Live with Kelly and Ryan on Monday, February 11, to discuss her recent wedding and her new show. Producers flashed a photo from her nuptials onscreen, featuring both the bride and groom donning stylish white sneakers on their dance floor.

“So he really got me with those, because I tried to find those shoes for a year,” she told Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest. “When we started dating, we had matching shoes right away. We’re really into matching. And I could not find these [sneakers]. And so he surprised me the morning of the wedding, and had written ‘wifey’ and ‘hubby’ and had the date [on it]. He’s just the coolest.”

Peregrym paired her white sneakers with a strapless Vivienne Westwood gown, while Oakley rocked his with a black Ralph Lauren tuxedo.

Happy New Year! Love Tom, Missy & Charly

The pair got married during an “intimate and fun evening” with close family and friends on December 30, a source told People at the time, adding that “typical of Missy and Tom, there was an enormous amount of love and a lot of laughter.”

Though the couple largely kept their celebration low-key, Peregrym did have one special decor item that she wanted to design for the wedding: a family crest.

“I didn’t have anything else to be doing these last six months, so…” she joked Monday, explaining that putting together the crest was a labor of love, because “the colors, everything means something.”

And in the end, its good intentions actually led to an unexpected coincidence of a story. “Funny story, I put in a Latin phrase: ‘Fire tries gold, and trials by fire purifies humans,’” Peregrym said of the crest. “And then our venue burnt down in Malibu. (A great fire known as the Woosley Fire ripped through the region at the beginning of December, devastating numerous homes and natural structures).

“It’s fine, we got married,” Peregrym reassured the audience as they gasped. “It’s just ironic because I was all about being purified by fire and building character and I was like, ‘That’s not what I meant.’”
