While every bride or aspiring bride knows her name, wedding dress designer Monique Lhuillier is expanding her lifestyle empire so that she becomes a staple… on your dressers. On Monday, March 2, the bridal figure announced her next pivot into fragrances with the launch of her eponymous and debut fragrance, Monique Lhuillier.

“I have always loved fragrance and wanted a fragrance of my own,” Lhuillier tells The Knot. “We take so much inspiration from flowers and I was always being asked if I had a fragrance so, as we approached our 25th anniversary, it felt like the perfect time to make my dream come true.”

True to form, the scent is inspired by the romance of a secret garden. It’s intended to be a glamorous and sophisticated scent, including notes of Sicilian Bergamot, Freesia Bouquet and Lace Wood. Parisian perfumer Maurice Roucel was the one to create the scent, which Lhuillier specifically wanted to cater to the confident woman.

“She is easy-going and elegant, romantic, but-ready-for-anything,” Lhuillier muses of her client. “She loves an impromptu party and her home is full of laughter, flowers, friends. For the Monique Lhuillier fragrance user, every day is a special occasion.”

Lhuillier has long been renowned in the wedding dress industry for her romantic, whimsical, feminine designs that remain resilient season after season. “It was important to me that this fragrance be an embodiment of the brand,” says Lhuillier, as she describes her namesake collections as “floral and romantic but sensual and bold.”

While working with Roucel, Lhuillier wanted to include hints of her favorite scents found in nature. “I think we achieved that by combining some of the more delicate notes of my favorite flowers: Lily of the Valley, Rose, Hyacinth,” she muses. “[All] with a touch of crisp Bergamot and Patchouli for depth.”

In the last five years, Lhuillier has expanded her lifestyle reach by collaborating with Bouqs for custom wedding arrangements. She then pivoted to a jewelry line and went on to design a home and lifestyle collection for Pottery Barn, you know, for those registry-related essentials. In short, you can have your dream Monique home all while evoking the scents of gardens in your corridor with her new fragrance.

In total, the designer says she’s grateful for the support. “I am very excited about our new Bliss Monique Lhuillier engagement rings that just launched Macy’s,” she notes. “After that, our next category debut will be our gorgeous lingerie collection in Fall 2020  and we’ve signed a new partnership for wedding invitations and personal stationery coming late this year.”

Monique Lhuillier perfumes are now launching online and in-store at Lord & Taylor, Nordstrom and Von Maur.
