It’s time to get rowdy with Cece and Schmidt! Fox’s New Girl is coming at you with two back-to-back “Bachelor Party” and “Bachelorette Party,” episodes and Hannah Simone, New Girl’s bride-to-be Cece Parekh, spoke with The Knot to share just how wild the night gets!
The evening starts with a brief scene where the entire cast is in the loft before heading on their separate pre-wedding parties. The boys, including the groom Schmidt (Max Greenfield), Best Man Nick (Jake Johnson), groomsman Winston (Lamorne Morris), and three of Schmidt’s groomsmen cameos head out to Las Vegas while the girls Cece and Jess (Zooey Deschanel) plan a chill night in, Simone told The Knot.
“You see everybody at the top of the episode and then the boys exit out of the loft and then you go away with them for a half hour episode, and then the next half hour episode is what happened at the exact same time on the inside of the loft with Jess and Cece,” she said. “Then at the end of the night there is kind of a reunion as would happen. So it’s kind of cool you get to see at the same time what’s happening in two different worlds. I loved that premise.”
Though Cece’s younger self was quoted as saying she wanted “the dirtiest bachelorette party of all time” complete with “strippers, mechanical bull, balloons in the shape of ding-dongs,” the actress said that ship has long since sailed for her character now that she’s found true love.
“What I really actually love about this whole Cece Schmidt wedding storyline this whole season is that it’s such a departure from the season when she was marrying someone that she didn’t love,” Simone told The Knot. “I think she’s actually a lot more comfortable and happy. So all she really wants to do is just have a relaxing, chill night in.”
And though Winston was asked to be both a groomsman and a “bridesman” he won’t be at both parties, Simone said adding, “I’m sure if Winston Bishop had his way he would. No he goes along with the boys on the bachelor party. So the bachelorette party is truly a girls only event.”
But, rounding out the bachelorette crew, and joining Jess and Cece on what should be a “relaxing” night in is SNL veteran Nasim Pedrad, once again playing the role of Ally, Winston’s police officer partner.
“It feels kind of awesome,” Simone told The Knot, “because Nasim Pedrad joins the bachelorette party – albeit against her will. That was really fun for Zooey and I because usually Nasim is in Lamorne’s storyline.”
“It was a really fun week just for the three of us girls in real life to get to hang out together and do all these really weird, funny things,” she said, “So that was really great to watch Cece and Ally kind of build up their relationship in that episode,” a relationship we had yet to see bloom.
Of course, Pedrad joins the party at a pivotal moment where Cece and Jess are a bit under the influence, and in true New Girl fashion, the three are left to fend for themselves after facing the consequences of some very bad wedding gift smashing mishaps…
“This is one of my favorite episodes I think we’ve ever shot,” Simone told The Knot. “Watching Jess’ character try to create the perfect, relaxed night in for Cece until of course everything goes wrong and they end up in jail. But you know, things happen. It’s not her fault.”
According to Simone at one point all three girls, Ally, Jess and Cece wind up handcuffed together – with the actresses actually “locked together with real handcuffs.”
“That was great too. It was nice for us to do physical comedy. It was one of the most fun moments because they’re forced to have all these conversations together because they’re locked in a jail cell and handcuffed, but in real life we’re three friends that are locked together in handcuffs in this tiny set so, we all had a really great day together!”
As for the Bachelor Party side of things, Simone shared with The Knot that it was hard for her to speak on their shenanigans because “for the first time ever the girls in the cast had nothing to do with the boys!”
“Usually we’re all in each other’s worlds all the time, we have been for over 100 episodes, and this was the first time,” she said. “I remember I got the schedule for the week and every single day said “off” and I’m like, ‘This is so crazy! I have no idea what they’re doing!’”
At the beginning of the “Bachelor Party” episode Schmidt’s “manhood” is called into question when a road rage incident leads to his apparent emasculation in front of his fiancee Cece, so all original bachelor party plans are called off to make way for a guy’s trip to Las Vegas.
“I know they don’t make it very far,” Simone shared, laughing. “There’s some interactions with some ruffians they didn’t expect, but that’s all I kinda really know about it, which is kind of funny!”
Nick rents some thrilling motorcycles which turn out to be a little less Harley and a little more Vespa than they’d like, and in a quest to help Schmidt regain his manhood before the wedding, an all out brawl ensues in the middle of the desert set to tune of Katy Perry’s “Roar.”
The “Bachelorette Party” episode finishes up with everyone back at the loft and the return of Cece’s old roommate, the sordid Russian model Nadia (Rebecca Reid), who intends on throwing a different kind of party for the bride-to-be.
“I can’t wait to watch that episode because of course we weren’t there for a second of that filming, so it’s going to be a brand new New Girl for me too!” Simone told The Knot. We can’t wait either!
Watch both pre-wedding episodes of New Girl on Tuesday April 26, starting with “Bachelor Party” at 8pm EST, followed by the “Bachelorette Party” episode at 9pm EST!
