No more cheesy pasta! ABC officially announced Rachel Lindsay as the new Bachelorette on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday, February 13, and Nick Viall had nothing but good things to say about his ex on Instagram.
“Bachelor Nation doesn’t know how it all goes down yet, but as you’ll surely see saying goodbye to Rachel was one of the most heartbreaking moments of my life,” the Bachelor, 36, wrote on Instagram. “I have met very few people who possess as much beauty, grace, and charisma as Rachel and after hearing that she’ll be the next Bachelorette I couldn’t be more excited.”
Lindsay, a Dallas-based attorney, is the franchise’s first-ever black lead in its 15-year history. The show broke from its usual format on Monday night of announcing the next lead after the current season’s finale. Currently, Lindsay still remains as one of the final four contestants on the show.
“Bachelor Nation is so lucky to have her but not as lucky as the group of men who will have a chance at winning her heart,” Viall continued. “No one is better prepared to show Bachelor Nation, and the world, the beauty of embracing diversity. Good luck Rachel, not that you’ll be needing it. I’m so proud and happy for you, I’m honored to be able to call you a friend. I can’t wait to watch your journey!!”
The season 21 Bachelor also joined Ellen DeGeneres on Tuesday, February 14, to discuss the casting news. “Rachel and I had an amazing amount of chemistry from the very first night – she got the first impression rose,” he noted. “I’m very excited for her. I think she’s going to be an amazing Bachelorette.”
Lindsay, meanwhile, joined Jimmy Kimmel and Chris Harrison on Monday night for the official revelation. “I’m ready to find love,” she shared. “I’m ready to find a husband, someone who’s ready to start a family.”
