Is Nicki Minaj married? It’s the question on fans’ minds after the rapper changed her last name on Twitter on Friday, August 16. Minaj took fiancé Kenneth Petty’s moniker on the social media platform, dubbing herself “Mrs. Petty” and sparking rumors that the two are in fact married.
Fans speculated that the duo took their relationship to the next level earlier this summer. In June, Minaj revealed on her radio show, Queen Radio, that she and Petty received their marriage license. “I think I have what I was striving for, just happiness,” she shared. “It was so hard to get to a happy place. Now that I’m there, I don’t want to compromise that for anyone or anything.”
In a later episode in August, she told her listeners that she would have a small wedding ceremony in “about 80 days,” followed by a bigger celebration after the release of her latest album, Megatron. “I have to work on my album and I have a lot to focus on that I don’t want to do the big wedding now,” she explained. “We’ll do the big wedding later. I’ll be married before my album comes out, but will have my wedding after the album comes out.”

The “Barbie Dreams” singer continued, “I’m very happy about that because my baby makes me so happy.” The couple made their relationship Instagram-official in December 2018. “He want me to be his wife- his MISSIS like SIPPI NOW,” Minaj captioned a photo series of them at the time. That same month, Petty also debuted a new tattoo of Minaj’s birth name, Onika. In June 2019, the couple appeared together in the music video for Minaj’s song “Megatron.”
This is Minaj’s first marriage, despite sparking engagement rumors with ex-boyfriend Meek Mill in 2015. While details of Petty’s personal life are mostly unknown, he’s rumored to have five children from a previous relationship.
