A fourth for good measure. A year ago, Olympian Michael Phelps and his wife, Nicole, married in a beautiful destination wedding in Mexico—a memory so special that the pair decided to return to the ceremony location for their first wedding anniversary on October 30.
The former Miss California took to Instagram on Monday night to share a romantic photo from dinner with her husband of one year. “Such an incredible way to celebrate our First Wedding Anniversary,” she wrote. “Thank you @patriciaarmenta for recreating different elements from our wedding and allowing us to have dinner overlooking where we said our vows!! And thank you to @e_p_shea @bshea14 @lwalker03 @sdskeen for making the night even more special. We love all of you!!”
Phelps also shared a photo of himself cutting into a cake with his wife at dinner. “It’s so crazy that it’s already been one year!!!” the swimmer wrote. “#happyanniversary #loveofmylife @mrs.nicolephelps.”

The couple memorably enjoyed three weddings, the first secretly took place ahead of Phelps’ historic, record-smashing wins at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The symbolic ceremony was held last June in the couple’s backyard and was conducted for security reasons so that Nicole and their son, Boomer, could easily travel to Brazil for the Games.
However, the pair formally got married in a stunning second wedding in Los Cabos, Mexico, where they were feted by their family members and friends. The bride wore a gown by Tel Aviv-Yafo-based designer Julie Vino. “She wasn’t interested in a traditional bridal gown,” Vino later told The Knot in an exclusive interview. “[Nicole] wanted something that was going to stand out.”

On New Year’s Eve, they brought the party home to Arizona, where they hosted a lavish, black-tie reception for their extended circle of friends and family.
