Crisis averted. Royal wedding guest Oprah, known for her sagacious ways, thought ahead to photograph her outfit one day before the nuptials between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took place at Windsor Castle on Saturday, May 19.
The daytime talk show host realized her neutral piece might be misconstrued as a big wedding faux pas because it photographed as near white—the perfect media storm in front of a billion viewers worldwide—so she quickly had to go with an alternate option at the wedding.
“Realized Friday morning the beige dress I was planning to wear to Royal ceremony would photograph too ‘white’ for a wedding,” the media mogul explained on Instagram. “Her team did this [overnight].”
The result was a petal pink, tiered dress by Stella McCartney featuring sleeves and a lace trim. The piece was comprised of sustainable viscose according to the designer, and required the entire night before the nuptials for completion.
Oprah, luckily, had accessories at the ready. “Hat is vintage @philiptreacy been in my closet since 2005 with new feathers,” she added on social media. “OMG was this an extraordinary day! #Harry&Meghan #RoyalWedding #Lovedeveryminute.”
In her accompanying video, she described the initial fiasco as “dressgate.” Oprah added, “Wrong color, now we have the right color. I think we’re going to do okay. Than you so much for the detail. Working the whole night.” She ended the clip with an “amen, amen, amen.”
British designer Stella McCartney had an overwhelmingly successful day on Saturday, dressing three noteworthy figures at the 2018 Royal Wedding starting with the bride. Markle memorably swapped into a gorgeous custom gown by McCartney for her evening reception with Prince Harry at Frogmore House.
The brand also dressed Amal Clooney in another buzzworthy celeb moment from the nuptials.
