A pretty big rock for a Pretty Little Liar! One of Pretty Little Liars‘ beloved couples, Aria Montgomery (Lucy Hale) and Ezra Fitz (Ian Harding), finally got engaged on the Freeform drama following two marriage proposals. Ezra proposed to his longtime love with a one-of-a-kind engagement ring crafted by Los Angeles designer, Zulema de Rodriguez, and The Knot has some more details.
“The crafting of this ring involved nine additional craftspeople who worked on CAD renderings, setting, engraving, filigree, stone placement, etc,” the show’s prop master Chris Vail tells The Knot. Viewers caught a glimpse of the stunning piece of jewelry on the latest episode.
Rather than use a diamond as the center stone for Aria’s ring, the designer chose a 1.62 carat pale pink Morganite stone. “Morganite is considered a semiprecious stone,” Vail explains. “The smaller stones are cubic zirconia meant to represent diamonds. The total weight of the ‘diamonds’ is approximately 1/2 carat.”
The unique engagement ring was designed “with an eye toward making something that felt vintage, delicate and elegant,” the PLL expert tells us. “A true vintage ring of the era would have been made of platinum, but we used silver to keep costs down.”
“If the ring had used platinum, diamonds, and Morganite, it would cost about $2000-$2500,” Vail shares with The Knot. ” If Morganite was replaced with a ‘fancy pink’ (this is the technical name of the color) diamond of that size, the price of the ring could top $300K.”
“The engraving, filigree and milgrain work on the ring is all done by hand and is what really captures the essence of the era and gives it it’s character and charm,” he explains.
With so much up in the air in Rosewood, it’s difficult to tell when Aria and Ezra will tie the knot. Overwhelmed by the wedding-planning process, on the last PLL episode, Ezra suggested they skip the formalities and elope, but the couple’s plans to jet off and get married were put on hold when FBI agents showed up to inform Ezra that his ex, Nicole, may still be alive.
As the drama continues to unfold, at least Aria will have her shiny new ring to distract her from a long line of dirty little secrets. Catch the next episode of Pretty Little Liars, airing Tuesday, August 16, at 8 p.m. ET on Freeform.
