A wedding, a proposal, and a whole lot of drama. After seven seasons, Pretty Little Liars tied up the series in a pretty little bow on the June 27 finale… or so it initially seemed. As promised, yet another couple made their union official following the courthouse nuptials of Hanna (Ashley Benson) and Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) last week, and one couple got engaged. But true to PLL tradition, nothing was as it appeared.
To kick off the festivities, Aria (Lucy Hale) and Ezra (Ian Harding) are treated to a bachelor/bachelorette party. Later, Aria learns that she can’t have children, but Ezra stays by her side. During the drama-filled rehearsal dinner, Aria’s father gives Ezra his blessing to marry Aria.
A Surprise Proposal
Later that night, Alison (Sasha Pieterse) shocks Emily (Shay Mitchell) by proposing with Emily’s grandmother’s ring. “When I was at my most lonely and unhappy and angry place, you loved me,” Alison says through tears. “And when I was an ugly human being, you saw a beautiful soul. You make the world a better place because you see the good in it, and you make me a better woman because you searched for one.”
She adds: “Do you promise to do that every day for the rest of our lives?” Emily doesn’t hesitate to accept the proposal.
Wedding Day Drama
On Aria and Ezra’s wedding day, Aria makes a beautiful bride in a form-fitting, sheer lace gown with long, flowy sleeves and intricate beading. Her hair is swept back with face-framing tendrils, and the look is topped off with a cathedral-length veil. Hanna (Ashley Benson), Emily, and Alison serve as bridesmaids, donning gorgeous midnight blue dresses.
At the last minute, Ezra sends Aria a text stating he won’t be at the wedding. In reality, Mary Drake (Andrea Parker) has locked him in an underground cell. Spencer (Troian Bellisario) is also locked up with her never-before-seen twin sister, Alex Drake (who just happens to be A.D.). The plot thickens when Alex stands in for Spencer at the wedding. Because the groom is indisposed, however, the wedding doesn’t go on.
Toby (Keegan Allen) saves the day when he shows up with a gun and an entourage to save Ezra and Spencer.
The Wedding Goes On
Aria and Ezra marry in a church wedding with pink and purple flowers decorating the pews. This time, Aria opts for a short, white gown with lacy, bell sleeves and strappy stilettos. Her groom dons a navy suit with a crisp white shirt and blue necktie.
The two exchange traditional vows in front of their loved ones, and the minister pronounces the couple Mr. and Mrs. Fitz.
Before Aria leaves on her honeymoon, the liars reflect on their friendship, and Hanna announces she’s pregnant. “For some reason this feels like it’s the end of something,” Alison says as the liars become emotional. Everyone hugs and Aria says, “I love you guys.”
Viewers later learn that Mona (Janel Parrish) has Mary Drake and Alex imprisoned in a dollhouse in Paris.
