It’s been five months now since Princess Eugenie and husband Jack Brooksbank exchanged vows at Windsor Castle, but that doesn’t mean that the remnants and memories need to be forgotten. In fact, based on a sweet photo that the royal posted to Instagram Thursday, Eugenie has been thinking about her wedding style for quite some time, long before she ever said “I do.”
“Same same but different,” she captioned a throwback photo of herself as a child donning a white wedding dress. The other image in the split-screen shot is from her wedding day, and the similarities between her real wedding dress and her throwback dress were not lost on her followers.
“Absolutely beautiful then and now,” one commenter wrote. Added another, “The flowers are almost the same!”
In the throwback photo, a young Eugenie grins at the camera in a long-sleeved white dress with a floral headband and veil while holding a giant bouquet of flowers. The other image, taken as she walked into St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, shows Eugenie in a form-fitting, off-the-shoulder, long sleeve gown by Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos.
Though their bouquets look markedly similar, their headgear is decidedly different: young Eugenie’s elaborate white flower headband and veil was replaced by the Greville Emerald Kokoshnik Tiara, which she borrowed from the Queen.
And instead of a veil, a grown-up Eugenie opted to go bare instead, showing off a scar she has from a childhood scoliosis surgery with her low-back gown.
“I had always wanted a low back—part of it was showing my scar and I believe scars tell a story about your past and your future, and it’s a way of getting rid of a taboo,” she told People at the time. “For me, it’s a way of communicating with people who are going through either similar situations with scoliosis or having a scar of their own that they are trying to deal with.”
Eugenie and Brooksbank got married on Friday, October 12, before a star-studded gathering of family and friends that included James Blunt, Naomi Campbell, and Liv Tyler.
