When news of Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra’s engagement broke last month, the only ones to remain silent about the rather sudden relationship status update were the stars themselves–and they would prefer to keep it that way.
Chopra tackled the topic of her engagement during a new Q&A-style panel discussion at the Taj Palace Hotel in Delhi on Monday, August 6. During the chat, the panelists briefly alluded to Chopra’s engagement to Jonas, which prompted the actress to reply, without confirming the news.
“My entire life—my personal life—is not for public consumption,” the Quantico actress replied. “Ninety percent of my life is for public consumption, but 10 percent is for me. I’m a girl; I have the right to keep that to myself.”
She added, “My family, my friendships and my relationships are things I don’t think I need to defend or explain to anyone. I am not running for office, so I don’t think I need to give explanations… Sometimes I laugh, sometimes I get annoyed.”
Eagle-eyed observers also spotted Chopra removing jewelry from her left ring finger before greeting the paparazzi at the Indira Gandhi International airport in New Delhi on Monday. The actress had jumped on a flight from Singapore, where she supported Jonas at an MTV concert this weekend.
The couple got engaged in late July after one of Chopra’s Bollywood directors hinted at the news in a tweet. Within 24 hours, People and other outlets confirmed that she’s engaged.
“His friends and family have never seen him like this,” one source said. “And they’re all really excited for him. He’s definitely very serious about her.”
