It’s their wedding weekend! Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas have touched down in Jodhpur, where they will soon exchange vows as a married couple.
The pair arrived on November 29, making their way from Mumbai to the state of Rajasthan in India. There, they will enjoy several pre-wedding ceremonies before making it official.
“Priyanka’s background is a unique blend of different parts of India,” Shawna Gohel, Founder and CEO of Maharani Weddings, tells The Knot. “She’s from Jamshedpur, but her dad is from Punjab. They moved to Delhi, so she’s going to have an Indian wedding mixed with traditions. She’s going to pick and choose what she wants, and as the week goes on, it gets more lavish.”
Gohel adds, “Indian weddings follow the tradition of your state, town or village.” Therefore, Chopra will have a blend of different traditions from her upbringing.
For the Indian wedding, it’s believed that Chopra will wear Manish Malhotra, whose designs were up front and center during the Puja ceremony earlier this week. “I don’t know that she’s going to jump designers,” Gohel adds. “For Indian weddings, the ultimate designer to have is Manish.”
The couple got engaged in Crete in time for her birthday this summer. Then, they enjoyed a traditional Rosa ceremony to mark their engagement. “It was such an incredible coming-together of two really ancient cultures and religions,” Chopra told Vogue in a new cover story.
“Two very different cultures and religious backgrounds,” Jonas added, “and the beauty of it was, there was so much love and acceptance for our side.”
