On her wedding day, Priyanka Chopra was ready and well-rested as she was set to marry Nick Jonas in the lavish Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, India. It wasn’t until the ceremony, however, that her sense of calm was suddenly disrupted by anxiety.
“Right before I was supposed to walk down the aisle, I remember them putting the veil on me,” Chopra said this week on Good Morning America. “The veil was like 75 feet. I was like—I’m going to strain my neck muscles like the mother of dragons.”
Chopra, who was accompanied down the aisle by her mother, wore a custom gown by Ralph Lauren for her Christian ceremony on December 1. The gorgeous gown was accessorized by an elaborate veil that spanned a large portion of the garden as she made a breathtaking debut down a set of steps.
“I was standing right behind the curtains and they were going to tell me when to walk out,” Chopra recalled. “And the music was going to start playing. I just started having a panic attack, and then the doors opened and I saw him. I cannot forget that moment.”
Since then, Chopra and Jonas have enjoyed numerous receptions around the world, including their most recent party held in North Carolina at the Jonas family’s restaurant. While the couple is partied out—both have cracked jokes about their many receptions—the two are growing accustomed to marriage.
“There’s a big difference between a husband and a fiancé,” she concluded. “I didn’t understand the gravity of that when I got married, but it’s a good thing to be married to a good husband.”
