Nicole Kidman’s look at Sunday night’s 2017 Emmys was effortless, attention-grabbing and elegant all once. The Big Little Lies actress took home the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie, but her real win was in the beauty department.

Kidman’s hairstylist, Kylee Heath, tells The Knot and other outlets that her vision was to give Nicole a classic look—with a twist—and one that can be easily replicated by brides the world over for their big day. The result was a bridal-worthy, braided chignon that held up beautifully throughout the evening’s festivities.

“I started with a fresh blowout to set the foundation for styling,” Heath says. “When Nicole’s hair was damp, I applied Living Proof T.B.D. Multi-Tasking Styler before drying her hair from front to back in a sweeping side part. Then, I added texture to the hair using a curling iron, applying Living Proof No Frizz Humidity Shield layer by layer.”

“Once the hair had texture, I created a French braid along the nape of the neck,” she continued. “To soften the look, I went back and pulled the braid apart and tamed any frizziness with Living Proof Molding Clay. Once complete, I used bobby pins to weave the end of the braid back through the way it came, and secured to lay flat. The look was finished with Living Proof Flex Hairspray, giving the hair light hold while still being soft and natural.”

Heath adds that the look is very “soft” and can be used for a more “timeless” feel.

“The look we created for Nicole was classic with a modern twist,” she says. “Nicole’s dress reminded me of a vintage Barbie doll, so creating a soft, feminine braided style was a no brainer. Both hair and makeup evoked a timeless feel to complement her overall look.”
