How Do Millennials Really Feel About the Royal Wedding?

It’s hard to know exactly what millennials care about most at any given moment anymore (aside from #millennialpink, avocado toast and the fate of Brooklyn Nine-Nine), but according to The Tylt, a social polling and opinion platform catered towards this particular generation, one thing they do care about, overwhelmingly, is the upcoming royal wedding.

The Tylt reports that its users are obsessed with all things Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, much like they were interested in the pomp and circumstance surrounding Prince William’s nuptials to Kate Middleton. The polling platform specifically collected nearly 2,000 votes between April 20 to May 4, with a set of questions all related to the royal wedding.

In one very pointed poll, The Tylt asked its users–primarily ages 18 to 34–if they would be willing to give up Netflix for an entire year just to score tickets to the royal wedding. Though the majority of millennials still clung tight to their streaming services, one-third of those polled said they would be willing to forego their nightly watch-party of Queer Eye or Glow in order to get a seat at the big British event.

More broadly (but just as tellingly), those polled said they still thought the royal wedding was a big deal, even amongst other blaring headlines related to domestic and international affairs. In fact, a whopping 57.7 percent of millennials polled said they still care about the royal nuptials.

This majority group is also paying attention to details about everything from Markle’s wedding gown (who is the designer?) to what flowers she’ll have in her bouquet.

And add to that the fact that 53.9 percent of those polled said they loved all things royal (Prince George and Princess Charlotte, anyone?) and it’s clear that there will be plenty of millennial eyes on the screen this coming Saturday.

However, another poll conducted by YouGov for HuffPost UK had a completely different set of findings, though this specific survey was not millennial-specific. The survey, which encompassed 1,600 adults in the UK and 2,000 in the U.S., found that only 30 percent of UK residents were interested in the royal wedding. The number was even smaller amongst Americans at only 28 percent expressing interest in the event.

Regardless, The Knot will be watching–fascinators included.
