That’s a lot of lemons! Meghan Markle and Prince Harry aren’t the only ones counting down the days until the royal wedding. The couple’s vendors are also focused on prepping the venue, the menu, and more leading up to Saturday, May 19, the latest figure being pastry chef Claire Ptak of Violet Bakery.
Ptak took to Instagram on Tuesday, May 15, to post a picture of crates of lemons lined up and ready for its starring moment in the nuptials. “And so it begins,” she teased in the caption.
The photo features Sicilian lemons—six crates worth of brilliant and divine yellow lemons—from Natoora, a fresh produce merchant based in London. As previously announced by Kensington Palace, the couple will have a lemon elderflower cake at their wedding, the confection itself topped by buttercream and fresh flowers.
The flavor profile is supposed to “incorporate the bright flavors of spring.”
Like the bride, Ptak is an American who relocated to London. “I can’t tell you how delighted am to be chosen to make Prince Harry and Ms. Markle’s wedding cake,” she said at the time of the announcement. “Knowing that they really share the same values as I do about food provenance, sustainability, seasonality and most importantly flavor, makes this the most exciting event to be a part of.”
